Romence Road Food Pantry

The Romence Road Food Pantry is located in the lower level of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church at the corner of Romence Road and Oakland Drive; Portage, Michigan. The pantry began serving clients in 1983 so this is its 25th year of operation.

Five churches contribute money and donate food to the pantry:

Because the pantry is affiliated with Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes it also receives food, at no cost, from that warehouse.

Approximately 50 volunteers (25 from SRC and 25 from CHUM) work in the pantry, which is open each weekday afternoon and 2 evenings per month.

This is an important ministry in our community and fills a critical need in Kalamazoo County. Last year, 2007, the Romence Road Food Pantry served 1,810 families for a total of 4,696 people. Nineteen tons of food were given to those families; that is the equivalent in weight to 6 Hummer H2 vehicles.
