What is Their Mission?
The Kalamazoo Deacons Conference is a Christian ministry that is "Sharing Christ's love with people in need" in the southwest Michigan community.
Some of the services provided are:
- Clothing and personal care items
- Household items
- Furniture/appliances
- Financial assistance
- Counseling
- Emergency food pantry
- Employment Readiness
- Approved site for individuals to fulfill community service obligations
- Connecting with congregations - Partnering with supporting churches in home mission ministry.
- Community outreach - we support the dreams and vision of residents in our low - income urban neighborhood.
All items donated to the Deacons Conference are given to guests without cost. We also share limited financial resources with people facing housing and utility emergencies, and, in fact, consider a variety of financial requests.
KDC provides services to individuals regardless of race, gender, religious affiliation or economic status. We do not require religious participation to receive assistance.
How Can You Help?
- Volunteer to work at the center on a regular basis in the following capacities:
- Be a Mentor
- Be a Counselor (no formal training needed)
- Come and pray in their prayer room for specific documented needs.
- Help sort clothing and other items that are donated.
- Assist "guests" in selecting clothing items from the display racks.
- Drive a truck to deliver items to those who cannot get to the facility.
- Donate seasonal needs including Blankets, and ongoing needs for beds, sheets, cooking pots & pans.
- Come for a visit and/or lead morning devotions each quarter or other systematic time intervals.
